“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it! / Boldness has genius, power and magic in it,:” is one of Goethe’s couplets for which I have deep respect. I have the strongest desire to connect humanity with humanity on all levels & often times I have no idea quite how to do it, but I just “begin it” with crazy amounts of “boldness“!!
Here is the perfect example:
The Interface Foundation supports global philanthropic leaders changing the world, my heroes if you will. Several months ago I had the great opportunity to meet Rod Brooks, CEO & Chessney Barrick, Director of Development of Stop Hunger Now (SHN). Stop Hunger Now (www.stophungernow.org) provides food & lifesaving aid to the world’s most destitute and hungry in the most efficient, effective and sustainable manner!! The work of SHN is AMAZING!!!! I was inspired to see how I could, in some way, support their lifesaving work.
I started to help immediately. After text messaging several of my friends in Hollywood to tell them 850 million people suffer from the tragedy of hunger and that 25,000 people die EVERYDAY from hunger-related causes over 28 friends showed up on 2 days to shoot a series of 6 Public Service Announcements for Stop Hunger Now. I didn’t know how I would do this, but I took the first step by talking to SHN then contacting my friends. The outcome was impactful!!

The Guru of Good 
It’s a little embarrassing to be called one of Scott Lazerson’s “heroes”. Heroes have a reputation for leaping over tall buildings or dragging a person from a fire. My day at Stop Hunger Now is nothing like that. It mostly consists of simply sharing with people the vision of a world without hunger, letting them know how it’s possible, and showing them how they can help. I know it seems like a daunting task to them, and yet I see people’s doubt disappear when they get involved by spending a couple of hours packaging meals, for example. I delight with them as they see the impact of their work and they sense how good it feels to have such a powerful impact on someone’s life by giving them the life-saving gift of food.
If anything, it’s a gift to be able to work in this field. I am constantly amazed at and moved by the profoundness of people’s compassion and their willingness to serve others if given the opportunity. So, at Stop Hunger Now, we’re giving everyone the opportunity to be involved in the effort to end hunger. Hunger can be eliminated because there is enough food in the world to feed everyone. All we’re missing are enough people who decide that now is the time to ensure that every person gets fed. That’s a realistic goal, and it’s a goal that we can achieve in our lifetime.
Scott Lazerson is helping us achieve this vision in a way that perhaps no other person could. Bringing to bear his unique background and relationships, he’s introducing Stop Hunger Now to a completely new audience and getting people involved who can create the movement to end hunger. His personal dedication is boundless and fortunately for us, completely contagious.
